KEVIN EMBERTON - OUTSIDE LINEBACKERS

Kevin Emberton, a former assistant coach at Indiana University, begins his first year as outside linebackers coach at Portland State.

Emberton spent the past four seasons working for the Hoosiers. He began as a defensive graduate assistant coach in 2003, then became outside linebackers, special teams and quality control coach in 2005. Emberton will also coach OLBs at Portland State as the Vikings employ Glanville’s 3-4 defense in 2007.

“I feel very fortunate to be able to get the best coach in the press box on game day. Kevin will relay offensive personnel, defensive alignments, everything to the coaches on the field before it happens,” said Glanville. “He reminds me of a guy that sat next to me in the press box in Detroit by the name of Bill Bellichick. Kevin’s expertise includes breaking down the opponent on the film exchange. When I first offered him the job, he impressed me with his intelligence by asking one question, ‘Is Mouse coming?’”

Said Emberton: “This is obviously a great privilege to work for Coach Glanville. I’m thankful for this opportunity. It’s not every day you get to come to work with two great legends in coaching. I hope to absorb as much as I possibly can from those two and turn that into a lot of success here at Portland State.”

Prior to coaching at Indiana, Emberton spent one season (2002) coaching cornerbacks at Lafayette College of the 1-AA Patriot League. He helped turn the Leopards around from a 2-9 season in 2001 to 7-5 in 2002 – the second-best turnaround in the nation that season.

From 1997 to 2001, Emberton coached at the high school level in the state of Illinois. He began coaching at Olympia (IL) High School right after his high school graduation in 1997 at the age of 18.

A 2001 graduate of Illinois State, Emberton has a degree in Physical Education. He is currently working toward a Masters degree in Health Education.
